New Features

• Simplebim Base Model — allows you to find, understand and organize data in any model from various design disciplines. Simplebim 12 ships with the following ready-made base model dataflows.

• Simplebim Cloud — publish a dataflow to a cloud pipeline or to the dataflow library, and fetch one back, directly from the Dataflow palette. Sign-in with e-mail/password or Microsoft account.
  • NOTE: Simplebim Cloud is not available to trial users.
• Virtualized File locations — files and folders in tool settings and dataflows refer to named locations (This PC, Current model folder, User Dataflows, Current Project...) instead of hard-coded paths, so the same dataflow runs on another computer or in the cloud.
  • User -level file locations make dataflows re-usable across projects and users.
  • Dataflows have their own file locations that can be added, renamed, removed and mapped to local folders. File location mappings are saved in the dataflow file. Before a dataflow step runs the report lists every resolved input file, or the exact reason it is unusable, and if unusable stops the dataflow.
• Simplebim Expert — the AI assistant lives in a flyout pane on the left of every window layout. Simplebim Expert gives advice on how to use Simplebim but does not operate Simplebim for you or create dataflows.

  • Click the flyout header to show, click again to hide. Pin to keep always visible.

Enhancements

  • Large dataflows open much faster
  • Input files may use wildcards (*.ifc)
  • Right-click a new file -setting to insert [MODEL_NAME] that resolves to the name of the currently open model without path or file extension
  • New Folder -settings type supports virtualized file locations for folder selections
  • Dataflow Presets dialog’s Find functionality now also finds in dataflow and tool descriptions instead of just names
  • Query settings have a Preview -button that runs the query without opening the editor.

• Queries
  • Units on numeric constants are no longer accepted in expressions: [Height] > 2m is a syntax error, instead use [Height {m}] > 2.
  • Date comparisons compare as dates, not text. Using ISO format ( "2026-09-30") for universally supported queries. The format defined in Windows regional settings can also be used, but the query will only work on computers with the same regional settings.
  • Overall reliability and performance improvements, for example in handling empty or non-existing values and empty groups.
  • Advanced logic accepts renumbers the logic when a rule is removed
  • Same-name properties show their property set in the dropdown
• Tools and dataflows
  • Add or Modify Group - tool
    • ‘Property Value’ query type renamed to ‘Simple Query’, and has new options for Operator and case sensitivity
    • The query type ‘Query’ renamed to ‘Advanced Query’

• Big models: palettes update, window layouts open and include/exclude operations on large models is faster.

• Improved localizations in all languages
• Workspaces renamed to Window Layout because of the Simplebim Cloud Workspace concept. Old, saved workspaces are migrated on first open.
• New units: mile, acre, litre, UK/US gallon/pint/fluid ounce/ton, lbf, kip, psi, ksi. Symbols written as rad, kW, kHz (old spellings still read). Values are never rounded to zero on display
• IFC import unit resolution recognizes conversion-based units by name and verifies by factor with mismatches reported. Models that imported with a wrong unit may now import correctly.
• Overall performance
  • The application starts faster with various startup tasks run in the background
  • Window layouts open faster because palettes can load in parallel
  • The application reacts much faster to changes made by large dataflows because palettes update to changes faster.
• When closing a model Simplebim no longer asks you if you want to save the model if the model has not changed.

Bug Fixes

• Copy Property Values -tool: now copies from every property with the given name when a table has several (was the first only before).
• Overlapping Objects -tool: second connection property is now set correctly.
• Excel templates
  • Bugs fixed in re-defining existing groups and moving groups to different group category
  • A self-referencing template is reported instead of looping
  • Enrichment can now set Date / Date-Time / Time properties
  • Many previously silent failures are now reported (unknown property type, identity without key, missing group property, unknown categories, …).
• Objects -palette: Validated required-but-empty object classes stay visible
• Table -palette: with trimmer mode off excluded rows/columns are hidden, with trimmer mode on excluded columns are struck out. A stored column layout is never changed by include/exclude.
• Containment -palette: A container is now "empty" when it has no included objects. Containers added in a session stay visible during the session. Name editing is blocked for read-only properties (lock icon).
• Windows now restore correctly across monitors/DPI.
• Errors in UI handlers show an Operation failed -dialog instead of closing the application.
• Add Basic Quantities -dataflow: Extra space at the end of property name "05_Shortest" fixed and Curtain wall dimension rule fixed (width)
• Save to IFC File – dataflow: Output item type fixed (openfileitem->newfileitem)
• Add Location Using Nearby Space and Derive Surface Objects for Space Walls -dataflows: Default value fixed (100 mm > 100 {mm})
