Dataflow Inherit Properties from Assemblies to Parts

The Inherit Properties from Assemblies to Parts dataflow copies selected text property values from a container or main element assembly to part objects. This dataflow includes three fixed property fields for inherited values. These properties represent the most typical assembly-level attributes in architectural and structural models that are also useful at the part-object level.

Copying can be applied to all part objects or only to selected ones, depending on the chosen target.

This dataflow provides an easy way to inherit common assembly-level values to parts that do not automatically include those properties. In architectural models, this dataflow can be useful for copying values from Curtain Wall, Stair and Covering to parts, and in structural models, for copying Element Assembly values to parts.

Settings

Step Name

The name of the dataflow step. The step name can be edited manually.

Part Objects

The part objects to which the copied values from the assembly or container will be set.

Assembly Name

The name of the existing assembly or container property whose value you want to copy to parts as the assembly name. The value will be copied to the 01_Assembly name property in the Simplebim property set, which is automatically created for all Part Objects.

Typical container properties in architectural models include Name, Family, and Building Element Construction Type. In structural models, typical assembly properties are Name and Family, depending on the original modeling tool. In addition, there may be several country-or project-specific identity properties.

Assembly Mark

The name of the existing assembly or container property whose value you want to copy to parts as the assembly mark. The value will be copied to the 01_Assembly mark property in the Simplebim property set, which is automatically created for all Part Objects.

The Assembly Mark property is mainly used in structural models. Assembly mark values are typically found in the Assembly/Cast Unit Mark property, but there may also be several country- or project-specific properties for this value.

Assembly Type

The name of the existing assembly or container property whose value you want to copy to parts as the assembly type. The value will be copied to the 01_Assembly type property in the Simplebim property set, which is automatically created for all Part Objects.

The Assembly Type property is mainly used in structural models. Assembly cast type values are typically found in the Cast unit type property, but there may also be several country- or project-specific properties for this value.
