Overview
The Objects palette is a versatile palette for showing objects either by object class, object group or object classifications. This is also the palette for adding, editing and deleting object groups.
Trimmer Mode
When Trimmer Mode is on the Objects palette shows all object classes and groups and for each how many objects from the total number are included. If all objects from an object class or group are excluded the item is shown as strikethrough.
When Trimmer Mode is off the Objects palette shows only included objects.
Toolbar
Filter
A text filter that filters objects classes and groups based on their name using case-insensitive contains -logic.
Add Group
Adding a new Object Group to the model into the selected Group Category. Groups in the Generic Group category and in any other Group Category that doesn't start with IFC are used only internally in the application. Groups in Group Categories that start with IFC are exported to IFC with the appropriate IFC objects. The available IFC Group Categories depend on the IFC version of the current model.
Options
Section Visibility controls which sections are shown in the Objects palette.
Empty Item Visibility controls which items are shown even if they are empty, for example if object classes with no objects are shown.
Rename Palette renames the Objects Palette, which is useful when the content of the palette is limited (isolated) to certain kinds of objects. By renaming it is possible to create dedicated palettes for example for only object classes or only groups. Prefixing the palette name with \\ removes the Objects -prefix from the palette name.
Reset Palette Name resets the palette name to 'Objects'.
Speak, when turned on, allows other palettes can react to selections made in the Objects palette, e.g. highlight the selected objects in the 3D window. The action taken by the other palettes is decided in those palettes, for example the 3D window can select, isolate or reveal.
Other
Reset sets all options back to their default values.

Isolate Object Classes shows only the Object Classes -section in the Objects palette. This makes it possible to create a dedicated palette that shows only object classes (and not object groups or object classifications)
Object Class(es)
Select First/Next Object selects the first or next object of the selected Object Class. This makes it easier to locate objects in large models, especially when the 3D Palette is configured to 'Isolate' and Auto Zoom'.
Copy Name copies the names of the selected Object Class(es) to the clipboard.
Copy Key copies the keys of the selected Object Class(es) to the clipboard.
Colorize colorizes objects in the selected Object Class based on the Type Objects of that Object Class.
Clear Colors clears the current colorization.
Delete All <Object Class> Types deletes all Type Objects for the selected Object Class. This menu item is only visible if the Object Class has Type Objects.
Add New <Object Class> Type adds a new Type Object to the selected Object Class. This menu item is only visible if the Object Class can have Type Objects.
Isolate Object Classes shows only the Object Classes -section in the Objects palette. This makes it possible to create a dedicated palette that shows only object classes (and not object groups or object classifications)
Object Groups Section
Copy Name copies the name of the section to the clipboard.

Group Category
Copy Name(s) copies the name(s) of the selected Group Category(s) to the clipboard.
Copy Key(s) copies the keys of the selected Group Category(s) to the clipboard.
Colorize colorizes objects in the selected Group Category based on the Object Group they belong to in the Group Category.
Delete all <group category> deletes all Object Groups in the selected Group Category.
All New <group category> adds a new Object Group into the selected Group Category.

Delete deleted the selected Object Group(s)
Limit Manual Child Groups ensures that child groups of the current group can only have objects the current group has. In this case if you try to add an object to the child group that the parent group does not have the child group rejects it.
Non-overlapping Manual Child Groups enforces that each object can be in only one child group of the current group. In this case when you add on object to one of the child groups, it is removed from any other child group under the same parent group. This is useful in for example classification systems for ensuring that each objects gets only one classification.
Save Groups as Template File saves the selected groups(s) into a template file. You can save groups on your own computer for your own use or share with others. Groups from template files are added by applying the template using the appropriate dataflow step. The file format for the ‘group templates’ is .sbt (Simplebim template) and you can choose it from the file dialog when browsing for a template file.
Isolate Object Groups shows only the Object Groups -section in the Objects palette. This makes it possible to create a dedicated palette that shows only object groups (and not object classes or object classifications)

Drag and Drop
From the Objects palette
- Dragging Object Classes, Object Groups and Object Classifications into other palettes drags the corresponding objects and the context. For example dragging an Object Class drags the object class and all objects in that object class.
- Dragging Object Classes, Object Groups and Object Classifications into a Dataflow Step configuration can drag the objects, the context or the name(s) of the item(s)
Into the Objects palette
- Dragging a property from the Properties palette on Group Category gives the option to generate groups based on the values of the dropped property
- Dragging a property from the Properties palette on an Object Group gives the option to add or remove the objects from the group, generate child groups based on the property value, or add a single child group.
- Dragging a property from the Properties palette on an Object Class generates rule-based type objects for the Object Class based on the property values. Holding down Ctrl generates manual groups.
- Dragging objects on a group gives the option to add or remove the objects from the group or generate a manual child group from the dropped objects.
Within the Objects palette
- Object Groups can be moved via drag and drop into another group category or as child groups under another group
