Dataflow Update Basic Quantities

Prerequisite: Run the Add Basic Quantities dataflow first.

The Update Basic Quantities dataflow updates the existing basic quantities of the selected objects and adds any missing ones. It recalculates geometry-based quantities and dimensions and assigns the results to the standard 05-properties in the Simplebim property set, which is created by the Add Basic Quantities dataflow.

The Add Basic Quantities dataflow calculates quantities based on the object class. If the object class does not match the actual building part, you can use the Update Basic Quantities dataflow to recalculate the quantities based on the actual or a similar building part, resulting in more accurate quantities.

Select the IFC objects for each category based on how you want their geometric quantities to be calculated. For example, you can select an object of the Wall class under Slabs if you want its quantities to be calculated using slab geometry. Categories without selected objects are skipped, and objects that are not selected remain unchanged.

Settings

Step Name

The name of the dataflow step. A dynamic name is automatically generated based on the configuration, but you can also overwrite it manually.

Building part categories

Select the objects to be updated for each building part category. You can select individual objects, object classes or different object groups. The selected objects will be updated using the geometry rules for the corresponding category. If no objects are selected, the category is skipped.

Walls

Select the objects to be updated using wall geometry rules. The default value is Select group.

Slabs

Select the objects to be updated using slab geometry rules. The default value is Select group.

Beams

Select the objects to be updated using beam geometry rules. The default value is Select group.

Columns

Select the objects to be updated using column geometry rules. The default value is Select group.

Footings

Select the objects to be updated using footing geometry rules. The default value is Select group.

Updated properties

For the selected objects, the dataflow recalculates the following properties in the Simplebim property set and overwrites their existing values:

  • 05_Volume: The net volume, recalculated for all categories.

  • 05_Area sides net: The net side surface area, recalculated for all categories.

  • 05_Area shadow net: The net shadow area, recalculated for Walls (vertical shadow) and Slabs, Beams, and Footings (horizontal shadow). Columns are left unchanged.

  • 05_Perimeter: The outer shadow perimeter, recalculated for Walls (vertical shadow) and Slabs, Beams, and Footings (horizontal shadow). Columns are left unchanged.

  • 05_Length: Derived from the 05_Horizontal longest dimension for Walls, Slabs, Beams, and Footings, and from the 05_Height dimension for Columns.

  • 05_Thickness: Derived from the 05_Horizontal shortest dimension for Walls and from the 05_Height dimension for Slabs.

  • 05_Width: Derived from the 05_Horizontal shortest dimension for Slabs, Beams, and Footings.

  • 05_Area net: A copy of the recalculated 05_Area shadow net value for Walls, Slabs, Beams, and Footings.
