Help! My IFC export settings aren't working

Daniel Olumuyiwa

Hello everyone,

My name is Daniel. I recently got introduced to Simplebim, about 6 months now, and find it very helpful for working with IFCs. I use Simplebim 10.1 at the moment.

I got into using templates and have found them to be very helpful. One problem I keep running into is that the variables in the “IFC Export Settings” never work. For example, I want my IFC export to maintain the colours of the  originally imported IFC. When I do this manually in the UI by setting the “Export Colors of 3D Objects” option, it works without any problem but it doesn't work when I use the same setting in the template.

The ultimate goal is to batch process IFC files which I have tested, and everything has worked except for the IFC export settings. This defeats the goal as the exported IFCs lack colour and are unusable for the purposes which I need them.

Is there something I might be doing wrong? Even specifying “IFC File Mark” doesn't work.

    Hi,

The easiest way to set the export settings is to configure them manually in the UI. Remember to check “Set current selection as default.” You can then leave the IFC Export Settings in the template blank, and Simplebim will use the default export settings that you have defined.

If you set the IFC Export Settings in the template, only the attributes that you actually set will override the default settings. You can try this by taking a blank template, setting the IFC Export Settings in the template like this, and then applying the template to the model.

After you have applied the template, take a look at the export settings. You will see that they have been modified.

Thank you. Configuring the preferred settings as default within the UI worked just right.

Hello Daniel Olumuyiwa and Gio Siradze, thanks for the great question and clear explanation: this will be really helpful for other Community Members working on the same topic!
