What is Simplebim Expert?
Simplebim Expert is an AI assistant that answers your questions about Simplebim using the official Simplebim documentation and the community forum. You ask in plain language, and it finds the relevant articles, summarises what they say and links you to them.
It is built for everyone who works with Simplebim: new users finding their way around, BIM professionals looking up a specific tool or dataflow, and anyone who wants a quick answer without browsing the help center by hand.
Simplebim Expert only knows what the Simplebim knowledge base says. It tries not guess, and it does not draw on general knowledge about BIM or IFC. When the documentation does not cover something, it tells you so and helps you reach the support team instead.
What can it help with?
Anything that is documented in the Simplebim help center or discussed in the community forum. Typical uses:
- How-to questions. "How do I merge two IFC models?" or "How do I add properties to objects?" You get the in-application workflow first, with automation options such as dataflows mentioned as an alternative.
- Explaining a feature. "What is a dataflow?" or "What does the Add Location Information tool do?" The answer starts with what the feature is for and when to use it.
- Finding the right article. Every answer links the articles it is based on and tells you which section they live in, such as Tools, Dataflows or Troubleshooting.
- Browsing and listing. "Which dataflow use cases are documented?" or "List the articles tagged facility management." Lists come with a link for each item.
- Multi-step workflows. A question that combines several actions, such as grouping, colorizing and exporting, is researched step by step and answered as one workflow.
- Troubleshooting. Error messages, installation and licensing questions, as far as the documentation covers them.
- Community knowledge. Forum posts and their replies are searched too. When an answer comes only from a community post, Simplebim Expert says so, because that content is user-generated and may be a workaround or out of date.
- Your Simplebim version. When you ask from inside the Simplebim desktop application, the assistant knows which version you are using and can point out when a feature arrived in a later release.
How to use it
Open the Simplebim Expert palette in Simplebim Desktop, or open the Simplebim Expert chat in your browser, and type your question. Simplebim Expert searches the knowledge base while you wait, then replies with an answer and links to the sources.
Tips for good answers:
- Ask in full sentences. "How do I add properties to objects?" works better than a single keyword.
- Use the words Simplebim uses. If you know the feature name, such as Merge Model or Add or Modify Groups, include it.
- One topic at a time. Follow-up questions about the same article are fine, but a new topic is best asked as a new question.
- Rephrase if nothing is found. The documentation may describe your topic with different terms. Adding a little detail often helps.
- Open the links. The linked article is the authoritative source and usually has screenshots the assistant cannot describe.
What it will not do
Simplebim Expert is deliberately limited to Simplebim. It will politely decline the following.
- Questions outside Simplebim. Other software, general BIM or IFC theory not covered in the help center, or any unrelated topic.
- General tasks. Writing or fixing code or scripts, translating, drafting text, calculations or other problem-solving.
- Answers from memory. If the documentation does not mention a button, setting or step, the assistant tries not invent one. It says the documentation does not cover it.
- Personal or license-specific support. It cannot see your license key or your models. Those questions go to the support team.
Simplebim Expert is an AI assistant and can make mistakes. Verify important details in the linked articles.
Reaching a human
When the assistant cannot help, you can open a support ticket directly from the chat. A Contact support button appears in two situations:
- The knowledge base had nothing on your question.
- You ask to talk to a person, or tell the assistant that a documented answer did not solve your problem.
Click the button and the assistant asks three quick things, in this order:
- A short subject line for the ticket.
- A sentence or two describing the problem.
- Your email address, so support can reply to you.
Your conversation is attached to the ticket automatically, so you do not need to repeat what you already tried. Nothing is sent until all three answers are given, and a Cancel ticket button is available the whole time. Cancelling means no ticket exists.
Once the ticket is created you see its number in the chat, and the Simplebim support team follows up by email. If the support system cannot be reached, the assistant tells you and asks you to email support@simplebim.com directly.
Privacy and your data
- Your questions are logged, but not linked to you. Your questions are used to search the Simplebim knowledge base and generate answers. They are logged without information that identifies who asked them. Questions may also be used to improve the documentation and generate community content.
- Your models stay with you. Simplebim Expert does not open, read, or upload your IFC files. It only receives the text you type.
- Please don’t enter personal or sensitive information in the chat. You are responsible for the information you choose to enter into the chat. The AI assistant may process information you provide in your messages. Avoid sharing passwords, payment details, identification numbers, or other private information.
- Your email address is only requested when you open a support ticket. It goes directly to the support ticket and is not kept in the chat or shown to the AI.
- Your Simplebim version is shared with the assistant when you ask a question from inside Simplebim Desktop, so answers can match your release.
- Each chat is independent. The assistant does not remember previous conversations.
Frequently asked questions
Is the answer always up to date? The assistant searches a database of the help center that is refreshed regularly. Very recent articles may take a short while to appear. The linked article is always the current version.
Why did it say the documentation does not cover my question? It searched more than one way and found nothing relevant. Try different wording or add detail. If the topic really is undocumented, use the Contact support button or post in the Simplebim community forum.
Why does it refuse to help with my script? Simplebim Expert only relays what the Simplebim documentation says. It will quote a script or command from an article, but it does not write or debug code of its own.
Can I trust a community post it cites? Community posts are written by other users. The assistant treats them as such. Prefer official articles for authoritative steps, and treat community content as a tip or workaround.
Does it replace the documentation in the Simplebim Community? No. It is a faster way into the same content. For step-by-step guides with screenshots, follow the links to the articles.
Does it replace support? No. It handles documented questions instantly and hands you over to the support team, with your conversation attached, when a person is needed.
