Dataflow 03_Base Model Datakey

The 03_Base Model Datakey dataflow combines up to five existing property values into a single standardized 03_Datakey property. This unique identifier helps group, filter, and select objects across the model—consistently across all projects. The combined value is automatically added to the Simplebim Property Set for the target objects.

The 03_Base Model Datakey wraps up the core idea of the whole Base Model concept: use rules to enrich IFC files with a standardized data structure (01-series), standard values (02-series), and generate standard datakeys from them (03-datakey). Use these standard datakeys as targets for all dataflow steps. This way, you can use the same dataflows (enrichment for use cases, splitting setup, cleaning, systematic IFC handling routines etc.) across all projects, simply by defining the 02-mapping at the project level.

Settings

Image 1: Typical 03_Datakey settings for all objects in the model, combining 02_Building Part and 02_Material, with the Tag left empty.

Image 2: Example of 03_Datakey settings for selected objects, combining extra detailed information into the datakey. With a unique Tag value, the resulting property name becomes 03_Datakey_Walls.

Image 3: All 03_Base Model Datakey dataflow steps add the 03-properties with values to target objects in the Simplebim property set. The steps also automatically create parent groups by 03_Datakey property name, with child groups by property values.

Step Name

The name of the dataflow step. A dynamic name is automatically generated based on the configuration, but you can also overwrite it manually.

Target Objects

The objects the Base Model 03_Datakey-properties will be added to. The default value for the target is All.

Combine Properties

A list of up to five existing properties (Property 1 to Property 5) whose values will be combined to create the new 03_Datakey property.

Set 03_Datakey Separator and Tag

Separator

List of characters you can use as separators between the combined values. You can also enter your own custom separator. Options include -, ;, /, and > (default is >).

Datakey Tag

An optional tag added to the property name to create multiple different 03_Datakey properties (e.g., turning 03_Datakey into 03_Datakey_Main). If left empty, the property is simply named 03_Datakey.
