The 02_Base Model Enrich dataflows are used to enrich the model with standardized, non-project-specific values for fundamental categories such as 02_Material and 02_Building Part. Beyond these core categories, the 02 series provides a flexible framework for creating custom 02-properties, enabling additional categories and classification perspectives to be applied to selected objects. The properties added with these dataflows are automatically included in the Simplebim property set.
By adding standard values across 02-categories, the data within any IFC model becomes significantly easier to find, understand, and use by anyone. This consistency extends beyond disciplines and individual projects, creating standardized data that enables the combination and analysis of model data across multiple sources.
The 02_Base Model Enrich dataflows always follow the 01_Base Model Standard dataflow. The 01 series creates the standardized data structure of the existing, original object data. The 02 series continues the Base Model concept by introducing standardized values for objects. These values play a critical role in the next step, the 03_Base Model Datakey, enabling highly effective, standardized, automated, and scalable enrichment at the project, unit, and company level.
Settings
The 02_Base Model Enrich Kit includes three dataflow steps:
Image 2: 02_Base Model Enrich Material — adds the 02_Material property and a selected material value to the target objects, using a predefined dropdown list of common materials (Concrete, Steel, Wood, Glass, etc.) with the option to add custom values.
Image 1: 02_Base Model Enrich Building part — adds the 02_Building part property and a selected building part value to the target objects. The available values in the dropdown list depend on the selected discipline (ARC, STR, MEP), e.g., Wall, Slab, Duct, Pipe, etc., with the option to add custom values.
Image 3: 02_Base Model Enrich Custom — adds a user defined custom 02-series property and its assigned value to the target objects.
Image 4: All 02_Base Model Enrich dataflow steps add the 02-properties with values to target objects in Simplebim property set. The steps also automatically create parent groups by 02 property name with child groups by property values.
Step Name
The name of the dataflow step. A dynamic name is automatically generated based on the configuration, but you can also overwrite it manually.
Target Objects
The objects the 02_Base Model -properties with values will be added to. If the target is an object selection or object group, the new properties will be added to all object classes for which the target has objects. However, the value will be set only for the objects in the target. The default value for the target is All.
Set Value
The selected value from the dropdown list or manually added value to the 02-property.
02_Enrich Building part - specific settings
Discipline
The selected discipline from the dropdown list to choose the related default building part list. Options include ARC, STR, and MEP.
Set Value ARC/STR/MEP
The selected value from the discipline-specific dropdown list, or a manually added value assigned to the 02-property. Note that the title of this setting changes based on the selected Discipline value above. The dynamic dataflow title does not update automatically and must be updated manually by the user.
02_Enrich Custom - specific settings
Set Property name 02_
The name of the custom 02-series property to be added to the target objects. Note that the property name has to start with 02_.
Running the 02-Series Dataflows
All 02-series enrichment steps follow the same workflow:
- Start with the whole model in the Not Decided window.
- Run the 02-dataflow step to add the 02-property and parent/child group to the model.
- Once the step is complete, all processed target objects are automatically moved to the Excluded window. Objects that have not yet been enriched with the 02-property value of the active step (e.g., 02_Material) remain in the Not Decided window.
- Each 02-step adds one value to target objects (e.g., 02_Material, Aluminium). The recommended approach is to process one 02-property/category with all its values at a time before starting the next 02-category. Note that the model can also be just partly enriched.
- After all objects for a specific 02-property have been enriched, all items in the Excluded window should be moved back to Not Decided Yet. This can be done manually via drag-and-drop, or more efficiently by adding an Include/Exclude Objects as the final dataflow step for the 02-property enrichment section.
- Now the model is ready for the next 02-enrichment.
