Dataflow Merge IFC File

The Merge IFC File dataflow merges two IFC files by adding objects from another IFC file to the current model. Users can choose between two predefined merge modes: deep merge and basic merge. Deep merge is a unique Simplebim feature that harmonizes the model’s containment structure during the merge operation. The dataflow also creates a group for the merged objects, which can be used as a target in other dataflows

This dataflow enables users to create a federated building model - one that integrates multiple discipline-specific models into a single harmonized model. Alternatively, it can be used to create city models containing multiple sites and buildings.

Settings

Step Name

The name of the dataflow step. The step name can be edited manually.

File Name

The name and path of the IFC file to merge. Note that the currently open IFC file and the IFC file that is merged must have the same IFC version.

Merge Mode

Select whether merged objects should be added to the existing site and building, or to a separate one. Objects are added to existing containers based on the container name—for example, building names must match. The comparison is case-insensitive.

Group Name

The group name for the merged objects. The default name is Merged Model, but it can be edited. If multiple IFC files need to be merged with the same model, the group name should be changed for each merged IFC file.
