The Add Property tool adds a new property to the model for the given object classes.

Creating a normalized data structure is one of the key tasks in data processing. This means that you make sure that the relevant data is always in the same place in the model. No matter where it comes from. For all models, in every project and from all design disciplines.

While you can do a lot of data structure normalization with the Copy Property Values tool, sometimes you need to add new empty properties to the model. This is what the Add Property tool does. The property values can then be set later manually or automatically.

Settings

Object Class(es)

Defines the object classes to which the property is added. The object classes must be defined, because in IFC, the properties are defined for object classes. However, the object classes can have the same properties.

The special option All will process all the object classes, including the spatial containers (project, site, building, and building storey).

To target the operation more precisely, choose one object class or many from a list.

Property Name

Defines the property that is added.

Property Type

Defines which kind of property you want to create.

Different available property types are the following: Date, Date Time, Number, Text, Time of Day, Whole Number, Yes/No, Angle Measure, Area Measure, Count Measure, Electric Current Measure, Force Measure, Length Measure, Linear Velocity Measure, Mass Measure, Monetary Measure, Other Measure, Power Measure, Pressure Measure, Sound Pressure Measure, Temperature Measure, Thermal Transmittance Measure, Time Measure, Volume Measure, Volumetric Flowrate Measure.

Property Set Name

Defines the Property Set Name where the Property is created.

If the property set already exists in the model, then the property is added to the existing one. If the property set is not yet in the model, it is created.

Use Quantity Set

Defines whether you want to create a Quantity Set instead of Property Set. Quantity sets are a special property set type in IFC, that can only include measure values. This option is available when you have chosen a measure type, for example, Length, Area, or Volume Measure, as your Property Type.

Quantity Set Name

Defines the Quantity Set Name where the Property is created.

If the quantity set already exists in the model, then the property is added to the existing one. If the quantity set is not yet in the model, it is created.
