Delete Groups is a tool for deleting groups of a given type that have a name that matches a given pattern. This tool is useful for deleting groups that you don’t need, which makes IFC file sizes smaller and speeds up operations inside Simplebim.

In Simplebim, many of the IFC structures are groups. There are different kinds of group categories that come from IFC schema, like IFC groups, systems, and zones. The classification systems are also groups. In addition, the so-called type objects are groups in Simplebim, and thus, they can also be managed with this tool. Finally, you can create your own categories in Simplebim.

Group Category

Defines the Group Category under which the tool tries to find the groups to be deleted, based on the Group Name Pattern.

You can use the special option, All Categories, to search for groups from all categories.

Or you can restrict the search to a specific IFC-based category: IFC Groups , IFC Assets , IFC Inventories , IFC Systems , IFC Building Systems , IFC Distribution Systems , IFC Distribution Circuits  or IFC Zones.

Type in Generic Groups if you want to remove generic groups.

Type in an object class name to remove type objects under the given object class.

Finally, type in your own category name, if you have one, to remove groups under it.

Group Name Pattern

The pattern the name of the group must match to be deleted. You can use the exact names. Or you can use the wildcard characters * and ? in the pattern to delete a larger group of objects at the same time.

Use * to delete all the groups under the given category.
